Commercially, Amarone starts at about $50 a bottle. Known as Italy’s most powerful wine, Amarone is renowned as a full-bodied rich wine that achieves intensity from dried grape skins included in the fermentation.
Our Selection Italian Amarone contains crushed grapes to help achieve our version of this deep heavyweight of a red. It exudes aromas of cherry, dried fruit, dark chocolate, almonds and has a spicy-earthy finish that goes on and on for miles from a huge volume of tannins.
Pair with grilled beef, strong dry cheeses (Parmigiano Reggiano or Asiago), pasta with meat-based tomato sauces, antipasto, veal or roast pork. The gripping tannin in this wine also makes it a natural for other red meats and game, and the fruit lifts up well herbed or spiced dishes.
Note: Selection “grape skin” Amarone comes with 2 yeasts. Make sure you add them both. (Yes… this red is ‘that’ BIG ;-)
Don’t forget that the grape skins are extremely easy to use. The kits come with a cheese cloth bag to contain the skins and it can simply be discarded after primary fermentation. (If you are making ‘on-site’ we’ll look after it!)Serve with grilled steak, roasted lamb or try it with bittersweet chocolate!
