Italian Sangiovese (0) - From Tuscany in central Italy, Sangiovese provides the backbone for the famous Chianti wines, and is the sole grape in Brunello di Montalcino. The endless sunshine and rich, well-drained mineral soils of Tuscany bring out the wonderful flavours of this grape.Ruby red in colour, this wine has a luscious red cherry character, with hints of violets. The finish is lively, with smooth tannins enlivened by a hearty zip of acidity, a dash of white pepper and warm toasty oak. The lively fruit and good acidity make it one of the most food-friendly of all reds, pairing well with pasta, veal Parmigiana, intensely flavoured cheeses, and fruits like cherries, figs, plums and raspberries. |
